Parent and Guardian Supervision
Parents/Guardians must remain onsite whilst child is completing swimming lessons at our swimming centre.
Make-up Lesson Policy
Make-up lessons will only be permitted under the following circumstances: The Swim School Office must receive a minimum of 12 hours notice, via call, text message or email prior to the commencement time of the lesson to be eligible for a make-up lesson.
- Students cannot have more than two makeup lesson per term.
- Make up lessons can only be taken within the enrolled term in which the original lesson was missed.
- No make-up lessons or credits for missed lessons are available in the Holiday Program.
- Make up lessons won’t be available during inclement weather.
- Lessons will not be held during storms or other dangerous conditions, at our absolute discretion. In this circumstance we will endeavour to provide the student with a make-lesson in the current term.
Medical Considerations & Pupil illness
- You must inform the Swim School Office of any medical condition or other issue that could impact on the safety of your child and their participation in the class. This is the responsibility of the career or guardian of every participant. It is essential for the safety of all participants in the classes.
- If your child is unwell, we recommend that you do not bring them to their swimming lesson.
- If your child has been ill with diarrhoea, they should not attend their lesson. To protect others, they should not swim for at least a week after it has completely cleared up.
Pool closure and cancelled swimming lessons
- In the event of a pool closure we will make every attempt to contact our customers as soon as possible. Contact will be via email or phone.
- Customers paying for swimming lessons will be provided with a catch-up lesson, to replace the missed session.
- In the event of a planned pool closure, wherever possible, you will be offered an alternative class to accommodate your lesson.
- Waterskills Swim School reserves the right to cancel classes should numbers fall below our minimum numbers per group (50% of class capacity). If this happens you will be offered an alternative lesson of the same level.
Assessment & Progression
Students will be placed in an appropriate level for their ability at the beginning of the program. The program allows students to progress through the levels at their own pace. Students won’t have to wait until the end of the term to be assessed. Once the criterion for progress has been assessed and met, the student can move up subject to availability in the next level. Teachers will assess a student when they believe the student is ready to progress to the next journey. In the weeks following that assessment, an Assessor will observe the student. If the Assessor agrees that the student is ready to progress, we will check the availability of the new level and notify you.
Changing teacher
- We will use reasonable endeavours to provide the same instructor for each lesson within a course. However, relief instructors may be used without prior notification.
- We reserve the right to appoint a new teacher at any time and may, at times, need to provide an alternative teacher for a class or classes due to illness or for any other unforeseen circumstances.
- In the event a teacher is away for a long period of time we will try to keep the same teacher for the duration of the absence where possible.
- If a teacher is absent, the centre reserves the right to join classes together if considered appropriate and safe according to Swim England guidelines. We would always try to put a replacement teacher in place immediately, however, if this is not manageable, we would put the classes together in order to avoid cancellation. This would be an extremely rare occurrence as additional teachers are usually available to cover any such eventualities.
Communication
- We like to encourage communication and welcome issues to be raised with our staff.
- The duty management team will be the people to resolve any poolside issues. Any problems or issues should be conveyed through them. They can be contacted through reception.
- If you have any questions regarding the progression of your child, please feel free to communicate with the management team available. The Waterskills team will contact you to discuss the query regarding your child.
- All parents/guardians are required to supply us with a valid contact number, e-mail address for quick communication purposes. This is essential so that we can inform you when your child is ready to move up to the next stage of lessons or for any cancellations
Viewing
- Parents/guardians are not permitted on the poolside but must sit in the pool viewing areas. Parents must not interfere with the lessons or distract the swimming teachers.
- We do ask that all spectators remain in the seating area in order to prevent any unnecessary distractions for the teachers.
- It is difficult for the teaching staff to gain full attention from their pupils if they are being distracted; progress can be affected if children are not fully able to concentrate.
